    Long Island Clue Party Murder Mystery Events

    Invite your friends and family, or corporate team, to dress up and get in on the fun. Our original murder mystery clue parties get everyone on the suspect list. You pick the venue, choose a theme and our professional actor arrives with scripts.

    These are immensely popular at Halloween (or Purim) but fun year round. Host a fundraiser at your local historical society. Treat the office to an over the top team building experience. Treat yourself at your 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, etc.

    The shows last about 90 minutes, but can stretch 2-3 hours over cocktails and dinner.

    • THE CAT’S MEOW, 1920s Speakeasy, Mobsters, Politicians, Old Hollywood/Broadway, Jazz musicians and high society and characters of international intrigue.
    • GOTHIC GATDEN SOIREE, The NOT So Gilded Age. It’s 1892. Imagine Edgar Allan Poe wrote Romeo & Juliet, with elements from House of Usher. Old money mirrors the crumbling Gothic architecture hiding behind Tapestries and Fauna.
    • Murder on East Egg Cruise lines (Gatzby Inspired characters).(Favorite show for teen events).
    • Murder at the Marina, Anchor Heads (salty locals) clash with Yachties (seasonal tourists) and other sketchy folks passing through.
    • Small Town Murders, local business owners, politicians, and the PTA fight for small town charm against incoming international business interests.
    • 1980s Rock Party Reunion, Over the hill rock stars try to keep the party alive, with groupies, managers, record label execs and more.
    • Murder at the Faire, The Royal Court, Shakespearean Actors and side show acts are all suspects when the Renaissance Festival owner goes the way of a Turkey Leg.

    PreShow

    Our detective arrives with invitations for every character. For smaller parties (Under 50) every guest gets a character. For larger parties (50-300+) we recommend the 20 character script. Either way EVERYONE plays detective.

    “Welcome to (insert character name here)” When each guests opens up their invitation, they find a note, “You are playing (Characyer Name)”.

    Next a bio for their character is written in first person. We encourage ad lib, but anyone not comfortable with improvising or like me, more focused on the crudite, can simply read the script.

    Each guest is armed with three clues as well, usually a weapon, location and motivation clue for three different characters.

    Finally on the back side are instructions for game play.

    THE GAME IS A FOOT!

    The show officially starts when our detective announces the murder. There is a brief welcome and introduction to the story. The victim is announced and 2-3 clues serve as a map key for the next hour.

    Game Play for Smaller Parties

    We call this stage speed dating for suspects. Every guest is both suspect and deputized detective. Each must speak with every other guest for 2-3 minutes. Sometimes in clusters. If you meet every character amd collect every clue, you can solve the crime. But watch out for red herrings and human nature. Both cloud the waters of justice.

    Game Play for Larger Parties

    Have 10-20 guest play a suspect. They either rotate table to table, OR post up around the room OR in a historical mansion or hotel, around the property for a clue scavenger hunt. We can even customize this experience.

    Usually each banquet round table of guests is a team of detectives. Each must interogate every suspect. If positioning suspects around the room, the teams can split up.

    SOLVING THE MURDER

    Teams come together to fill out final solution answer sheets. Each team submits WHO did, HOW they did it, WHERE they did it and WHY. The answer sheets also have a spot for BEST ACTOR and BEST COSTUME awards.

    THE FINAL REVEAL

    Our triumphant detective finally reveals the murderer and winning team(s). Although, sometimes, the killer gets away with the heinous crime and THEY get a prize. The night ends with awarding BEST ACTOR & BEST COSTUME awards.

    Improv 4 Kids Long Island Educational Outreach Programming

    We have 20 + years delivering engaging immersive edutainment for k12 schools, summer camps, community centers and private family events.

    Improv 4 Kids has been touring Long Island schools, summer camp, libraries, theaters and private events for 20+ years.

    Every show features all professional artists, many born and raised in Nassau or Suffolk county. The cast creates original skits and songs improvised based on audience suggestions and participation.

    Parents and teachers love the cultural arts, language arts and life skills. Kids just love the joy and laughter. We don’t tell them about the invaluable educational value.

    Improv Workshops take the education a step further, getting kids and teens on their feet. Simply playing these games boosts selfconfidence, listening and focus. Extended play develops creativity, critical thinking, public speaking and self awareness. Improv IS Social Emotional Learning!

    We have teachers available for residences and schools and camps. Offer an extended theaterical program. Beyond the cost of a teaching artist, there is no over head – no royalties, no printing, no costumes, no props, etc. These are all supplied by a child’s imagination!

    We teach younger kids how to play. But grades 3-8 needs the arts to bridge adolescene into adulthood. Improv is the perfect conduit. By starting workshops at grade 3 (shows are great for all ages k12… to senior citizens), we capture them at age when they still play like kids, but start to understand and process.

    By continuing through middle school we fight the behaviors that lead to stage fright and social anxiety. We teach to move.past ego and insecurity and to double down on listening and being prepared. With improv the rewards are immediate.

    Their listening and focus, partnered with YES AND… support for their partners, delivers more laughs then when they TRY to be funny or clever. They embrace storytelling elements, as we deconstruct Language Arts. They become better readers and writers as they hit a ceiling with JUST winging it.

    We eventually include stand up and sketch comedy to further deliver on the literacy skills. We make writing fun for non writers. We teach good writers to be great. Improv is one giant exercise in divergent thinking.

    We use these same games and techniques to train teachers, corporate teams, leadership, sales and customer service.

    Madcapped Mysteries, Long Island Event Tour

    MADCAPPED MYSTERIES is the most original murder mystery show of all time because it’s created on the spot by you and your guests. Our professional Detective and Improv comedian leads the storytelling, and by the end of the night everyone is a character – witness, suspect, friend and family and the crime and it’s solution are completely original. It’s like being in a crime drama movie.

    The show runs about 75 minutes. We also have a 45 minute version for special functions, or we can stretch over 2 hours for cocktail parties.

    Madcapped Mysteries is perfect for any corporate team building event. We can host at the office or your venue of choice. In so many ways this is an improv workshop in disguise. But if you don’t tell, I won’t. This show is a community builder. But also, it’s an exercise in story telling, public speaking, collaboration, divergent thinking, and convergent thinking.

    Madcapped is a huge hit friends & family gathering (birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, bachelor and Bachelorette parties etc). We can host at your home/apartment or any venue.

    Teens LOVE this show. (sweet 16, Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs, quinceañera, graduations, teens nights at community centers, closing night parties for the high school play/musical. Our players are professional al actors, many with TV credits.

    We also a version for kids and families, where the crime is a theft. Tons of fun for blue & gold dinners, scout meetings, after school programming. The show is basically an education in story telling. At first kids are a tad confused. Once they figure out the “game” they come alive. Their imaginations lead to the most glorious of stories.

    ACT I: The Crime Scene

    The show starts like a mad libs book, or the popular improv game, call ’em’s. Our professional comedian, and decorated murder mystery detective, leads the crowd to establish a crime. As in an improv show, we create the WHO WHERE WHAT of a crime scene. We might even meet the coroner and other members of the investigative team (audience guests).

    ACT II: Who’s Who

    Over the the course of the next 20-30 minutes, many, if not all of your guests become characters in the story, one by one created organically thru the interactions of the MC and guests. We meet various public servants, from the Mayor to the coroner to the District Attorney as well as the Victim’s friends, family and coworkers.

    ACT III: Interogations

    Eventually a handful of characters are named as suspects, while everyone else becomes a deputy, teaming up to interogate these dubious characters and solve the crime.

    ACT IV: Solve The Case

    Everyone takes a moment to fill oit our answer sheets, setting down to paper who they think did the dastardly deed, how, where and why. For larger events, this occurs in teams. For smaller events usually it’s everyone for them selves, or perhaps couples pair off, etc.

    ACT V: Final Reveals

    Every murder show ends with the final reveals. But Madcapped Mysteries is bybfar the most fun. The detective will MELODRAMATICALLY read many, or all of the solutions. We end the show awarding a few prizes to the most beloved solutions and even a best actor award.

    Evan Schultz, Long Island Team Lead

    Evan Schultz is a Long Island native and graduate of Wagner College with a BA in Musical Theatre Performance/Voice and Speech. Evan first joined Improv Theater LLc as a performer in the 2009-2011 off-Broadway production, LMAO OFF-BROADWAY, and has since performed regularly, including serving as MC and team lead for Improv comedy shows & workshops,

    TV and Film credits include 30 Rock, Law & Order SVU, Law & Order Criminal Intent, Gossip Girls, Fringe, Cupid, When in Rome, and Professional Organization Of Poggz (POOP The Movie on YouTube).  

    He has been seen at The Argyle Theatre in The Wizard of Oz (Lion/Zeke), Harry Connick, Jr.’s The Happy Elf (Santa/Ensemble), The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley (Male Swing), James and the Giant Peach (Grasshopper), and would have been seen in Junie B. Jones The Musical (Mrs. Gutzman/Mr. Scary/Daddy/Mr. Woo), but that was unfortunately postponed due to COVID-19. He is the Acting Teacher/Director for the Argyle Academy of the Arts Summer Intensive. He teaches improv and acting at the Argyle during the fall and spring classes. Evan has also stage managed here, and is the Resident Argyle Children’s Theatre Props Designer.  

    Off-Broadway credits include LMAO (Improv Actor), Isabelle and the Pretty-Ugly Spell, Lost Boys Or An Awfully Big Adventure, JAR’D, The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever, Hollywood-Hollywood!, Booth! (Ensemble), and Dickens Condensed.  

    Regional credits include Shrek (Shrek), Seussical (Horton), Jekyll and Hyde (Ensemble), A Wonderful Life (Swing), Sleeping Beauty (Gryff), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(Grandpa Joe), Charlotte’s Web (Wilbur), Grand Hotel, and Into the Woods. Touring credits include Improv4Kids (Improv actor), Charlotte’s Web (Wilbur), and A Christmas Carol.  

    Evan is a producer for theatre and film. He is very proud of his current show, A Musical About Star Wars (https://www.amusicalaboutstarwars.com/), which was Off Broadway and will be back once Broadway opens again.  

    He was also fortunate enough to entertain on cruise ships for five years traveling the world when he was a bit younger. It brought him to every continent and to far away places like Antarctica, The Arctic Circle, Fiji, and even down under in Australia and New Zealand.
